Iris ‘Black Taffeta’ (Mid-Season Tall Bearded Iris)

Dramatic, sophisticated, and richly coloured, Iris ‘Black Taffeta’ is a stunning Tall Bearded Iris that brings depth and elegance to the mid-season garden. Renowned for its velvety dark blooms, this variety is a favourite among iris enthusiasts and collectors seeking a bold garden statement.

The flowers are a luxurious deep violet self, so intensely coloured they appear almost black-purple in certain light. The beard and hafts share the same rich colouring, creating a seamless, velvety effect across the bloom. Adding further interest, the foliage displays attractive purple pigmentation at the leaf bases near the rhizome, providing ornamental appeal even when the plant is not in flower.

The Iris flowering period has the potential to begin late August and extend into late / early December. To ensure optimal plant health, orders are not dispatched until flowering has concluded, allowing the rhizomes adequate time to regenerate. We anticipate lifting and preparing orders from early February subject to weather conditions. If you live in a hot dry climate, we recommend not receiving your order until March. All rhizomes are professionally trimmed, washed, sanitised and air dried to ensure they are delivered in premium condition. For best establishment, the recommended planting period is February through April.
